1 Patton, Charlie Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues
Revenant Records 1st Box Fine, 7 CDs in box.
Charlie Patton (1891- 1934) may be the real King of the Delta blues. A generation before Robert Johnson, Patton made 26 highly sought-after 78s of immense energy and power. John Fahey wrote a book about him, and there has been another biography since then. Now he's finally been given a fitting CD tribute in this stunningly- packaged 7 CD set: All Patton's issued work including several alternate takes; sides by Patton's sessionmates (Willie Brown, Louise Johnson, etc.); a 6th CD of artists in Patton's "orbit": Blind Joe Reynolds (newly discovered track), Poor Boy Lofton, etc.; and a 7th CD of interviews with Patton associates like H. C. Speir, Pop Staples, etc. The set is packaged like an old 78 album (in an eye-catching slipcase yet) and each CD has a Paramount label and is mounted on a 10" disc so it looks like a 78. Each is in a paper sleeve (a replica of a Paramount sleeve). And there is a sticker label facsimile of each Patton release mounted separately for you to play with. Plus, facsimile of all 6 Patton adverts are included. Of special interest is an exact facsimile reprint of Fahey's book on Patton (paper issue), new text by Fahey, full lyric transcriptions, and 128 pages of new information on Patton. SCREAMIN' AND HOLLERIN' THE BLUES listed for around $174 and sold on Amazon at around $157.
Price: 135.00 USD
