A very good+ copy with a shallow chip and wear at head of spine. Wright was the first African American to earn a PhD in Sociology from an accredited graduate school (in 1911). He entered the Divinity School at the University of Chicago and became interested in sociology and civil rights of migrants, after which he obtained his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a long-time editor of The Christian Recorder, a pioneering African American periodical founded before the Civil War, he co-founded a bank that catered to an African American clientele.
